- We advise clients on sale and purchase of aircraft and engines, including portfolios, as well as on leasing, registration, security interest, regulatory and import and tax matters, in particular VAT
- We have long-standing experience in airline insolvencies, repossessions and restructurings, and the loss of aircraft, having worked on the majority of high-profile workouts in the Swiss industry over the years. On the contentious side, we represent the interests of the parties involved, including victims
- Our shipping practice assists lenders in commercial ship finance transactions involving Swiss registered ships navigating on Swiss rivers and also acts on behalf of owners, having assisted in the creation or development of a number of large players in the industry. We advise clients on joint ventures and holding structures, and have also acted on behalf of owners in new building disputes, especially in arbitration. Leasing and sale and purchase transactions are dealt with by our experienced team of lawyers with the support of local correspondents in the relevant jurisdictions

- Switzerland is the world’s leading place for the development of drone technology and certain high-end applications and has a pioneering role in drone traffic management. We have contacts in the Federal Office of Civil Aviation FOCA and advise players in the unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) market as well as manned and unmanned VTOLs on various issues such as corporate and commercial, intellectual property, data protection and procurement

FINMA Guidance 08/2024 Governance and Risk Management when using Artificial Intelligence
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the financial market is on the rise, presenting both opportunities and risks. FINMA emphasizes in its new Guidance 8/2024 the need to properly identify, calibrate, and manage these risks. While there are no specific laws on AI in Switzerland, existing regulatory requirements concerning governance and risk management also apply to AI. This is in line with the technology-neutral and principle-based financial market regulation.

Switzerland’s accession to the Hague Convention on Choice of Court Agreements
From 1 January 2025 the Hague Convention on Choice of Court Agreements of 30 June 2005 (the Hague Choice of Court Convention) will bind Switzerland. Switzerland’s accession will increase certainty and effectiveness of jurisdiction clauses and facilitate recognition and enforcement of judgments given by Contracting States’ courts in international civil or commercial matters. Post BREXIT, Switzerland’s accession ensures the enforcement and recognition of English court’s judgments in Switzerland and vice versa. Given the importance of English courts’ jurisdiction (particularly but not only in international finance transactions) and the trade volumes between Switzerland and the UK, many businesses will benefit.

Act on the Transparency of Legal Entities
On 22 May 2024 the Federal Council adopted the dispatch on the new Transparency Act for Legal Entities to be submitted to the Swiss parliament. The bill introduces a new federal register of beneficial owners of legal entities as well as new due diligence duties for risky activities in the legal profession, following the purpose of enhancing effectiveness of the Swiss framework for combating money laundering and terrorist financing. Furthermore, the bill aims compliance with international standards set by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
