Oliver Heer successfully crossed the Finish Line in Les Sables-d’Olonne!
Monday evening, after months at sea, Oliver Heer proudly achieved his primary goal: To be the first Swiss German team to complete the gruelling Vendée Globe race. Crossing the finish line off the coast of Les Sables-d’Olonne marked the culmination of an extraordinary journey – one defined by endurance, determination, and an unbreakable spirit.
For Oliver, two moments stood out above all: the final approach to the finish and the long-anticipated sailing down the famous channel. While crossing the line was a deeply personal victory, the entry into Les Sables d’Olonne was another challenge entirely. The channel operates under strict tidal constraints, meaning that after finishing the race, a skipper may have to wait up to six hours before making their triumphant return to shore.
Planning this final stage was yet another test, filled with uncertainties. After navigating thousands of miles of open ocean, Oliver faced the unpredictability of tides and timing. Yet, as with every challenge in this race, he approached it with patience and resolve.
Arriving at the docks, greeted by his family, his supporters and well-wishers, Oliver reflected on the significance of the moment. “Reaching the finish was my number one goal,” he said. “This race pushes you to your limits, but today, all the effort was worth it.”
His journey, marked by resilience and skill, stands as a testament to the spirit of the Vendée Globe – an adventure where simply finishing is an achievement in itself. We at MLL Legal feel proud and privileged to have been able to share in the adventures, all the ups and downs of Oliver Heer and the entire Ocean Racing Team. Congrats, Captain Heer!
