MLL Proudly Hosted Joint Event AIPLA and INGRES in Geneva

On 17 June, MLL Legal had the pleasure of hosting a collaborative event at its Geneva office, uniting two prominent intellectual property organisations: the American AIPLA and the Swiss INGRES.

The event opened with a presentation by Kim Van Voorhis, the AIPLA President, who shared the association’s goals and strategic direction. This was followed by the INGRES President, Michael Ritscher, who reflected on the organisation’s key contributions to the development of Swiss IP law. Attention then turned toward future prospects, as both associations explored avenues for enhanced cooperation.

Adding a judicial perspective, Prof. Daniel Kraus, a judge at the Swiss Federal Patent Court, offered insights into current trends and challenges in Swiss patent litigation.

Michael Ritscher later examined the significance of a landmark ruling from the European Court of Justice in the Vitra vs Kwantum case – marking a meaningful advance in the effort to eliminate discrimination against American designs and designers within Europe. Margaret Polson wrapped up the official programme with practical guidance on navigating the Hague design protection system, sharing actionable tips for securing and managing international design rights.

The evening concluded with an informal cocktail reception, fostering conversation, connections, and a strengthened sense of partnership between the American and European IP communities.
