Speaking Engagements

Marcel R. Jung speaker at the IBA Annual Conference in Miami on 3 November 2022
On 3 November 2022, Marcel R. Jung will be speaker at the session “Crypto, blockchain and fintech – can tax keep pace with technology?” of the IBA Annual Conference in Miami 2022, which is presented by the Taxation Section of the International Bar Association.
New technologies have evolved to make it possible to store data in an unprecedented manner. New asset classes, like crypto currencies and non-fungible tokens, have been created. Can old law apply to such new asset classes? This panel will explain how tax laws of the brick-and-mortar time are being applied to transactions in the blockchain and crypto world and, where available, which new laws or guidelines have been enacted to address the ever-changing universe of the internet, soon potentially a meta-verse.
The session will be co-chaired by Mark H Leeds (Mayer Brown, USA) and Niklas Schmidt (WOLF THEISS, Austria) and includes Marcel Jung (MLL Legal – Switzerland), Sahel Assar (Buchanan Ingersoll Rooney, USA), Maria Seung Yon Chang (Bae Kim & Lee, South Korea) and Albert Collado (J&A Garrigues, Spain).
